-About us-

Africa Peace is a Youth-based non governmental organisation created in July 2001 and officially registered in Benin in March 2002 under the reference N° 2002/1145/MISD/DC/SG/DAI/SAAP - ASSOC.

Its fields of activity are Culture of peace, Intercultural dialogue and Citizen Participation.

It has been created in July 2001 (in follow up of the first African youth conference for the culture of peace in Cape Town, South Africa, June 30th – July 06th, 2001) and has been launched in Benin on march 12th  2002.

Since its launch in March 2002, Africa Peace focuses its field activities in Benin. The key areas of intervention and main activities of Africa Peace were:

  • west African Youth training-seminar for peace-building: empowerment of 40 west African youth leaders for peace-building (November 2002)
  • training of 20 young people in computer skills (Word, Excel & Internet)
  • advocacy with religious and community leaders for adolescents & youths reproductive health
  • promotion of child rights through the holding of two forums on human security for Benin children (May 2003 & May 2004),
  • Intercultural camp Benin 2003: campaign for girl-child schooling in the municipality of Djakotomey in Benin
  • Intercultural camp Benin 2004: International Youth Campaign for peace and non-violence to prevent armed conflict and enhance peace in Benin prior to the 2006 presidential elections.
  • Empowerment of youth leaders from seven west African countries for their understanding and ownership of the New Partnership for Africa Development – NEPAD and the African Peer Review Mechanism – APRM
  • Participation in many youth events (workshops, seminars, etc.) in Africa and abroad.
